Here is the Luxury London Property from Finchatton (London’s most prestigious developers) which is located in Chester Row-Belgravia. This Stunning Townhouse is the best facets of period architecture with the highest contemporary standardshas, where natural light permeates from roofline to lower ground floor, thanks to glass walls, a floating staircase, strategically placed double height mirrors and subtle chrome detailing. Small Decor Idea: Occasional Tables

Sometimes the “almost perfect” room needs just a single finishing touch to become the “perfect” room. If you’re looking for green decorating accessories to put the final touches on your green home, you might want to consider occasional tables, coffee tables, and end tables like the one pictured above.
This eco-friendly coffee table is made from 3 pieces of SmartWood, which is rain forest certified and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, a non-profit dedicated to sustainable forestry practices. All the wood for the environmentally-friendly furniture is harvested in North America, and it’s finished with non-toxic, formaldehyde free, water-based finishes. In addition, this end table is UV sealed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Wondering how they’ll ship it to you? The table folds flat to reduce packaging and shipping requirements. I found this occasional table at BuyEnergyEfficient.org, which offers a wide variety of environmentally-friendly household items, including green furniture and green kitchen appliances.

Small Home Idea: Cork Flooring

Cork flooring is both an environmentally-friendly and energy-efficient flooring option for your home. Here’s more information about this green flooring material:
How It’s Harvested: Cork is harvested from the bark of the cork tree, which is native to the Mediteranean. Cork to be used for flooring is cut into large flat panels. Cork harvesting is is an environmentally friendly process, as only the bark of the tree is used, and the tree is not harmed. Cork trees produce a new layer of cork for harvesting every 5-7 years.
How It’s Installed: Cork flooring installation is similar to the installation of wood flooring. It can be glued down or installed as a tongue and groove “floating floor”. Cork flooring is often treated with natural sealants for easy cleaning.
Cork Flooring Benefits: In addition to being a smart choice for any green remodeling project, cork flooring is sound absorbent, all natural, and energy-efficient. Cork flooring is warm to the touch and will help you conserve energy by acting as a natural insulator.
Cork floors cost about the same as hardwood floors. Here’s more info about cork flooring.

The Basic Elements of Decorating a Home

elements-of-interior

Interiors are made up of both architectural and design elements, which converge to give a space its style and ambiance. Style is based on previous designs, and historic periods, while ambiance is based on the energy and feel of the space. By understanding the basic underlying components that make up the appearance of your home, you can gain greater control over how it looks and feels.

Color is probably the most recognizable element in interior decorating. It is the spice of life, noticeable, vivid, and brilliant, it fills the world with its joyous expressions and contentious contrasting. It also heavily affects the psychology of a space, with various tones causing subconscious reactions in people.

In general, reds, oranges, and yellow colors are going to add energy to a space, while calmer greens, blues, and earth tones will make the space more relaxing and comfortable. These can be contrasted with one another to create serene havens that have just a touch of spicy interest.

Lighting is another important and very basic element of home decorating. Illumination takes everything that exists within a space, and casts it in either a bright or shaded light. Its glow can highlight certain features, while its absence can cast negative features into the dark.

Most people don’t pay much attention to the decorative functions of illumination, worrying only about whether the home is bright enough to function in. Part of the problem is that light is an almost ineffable substance, you can’t touch it, you can’t really direct it, and so most people just ignore it.

One way to take control of the lighting in your home is to sue layers of light throughout a room. Just because a space has a great overhead fixture, doesn’t mean you can’t compliment that with a series of table and free standing floor lamps. Add another layer with track lighting, and then tie everything into dimmer switches, to really become the master of your homes illumination.

Texture is another basic decorating component that most people completely overlook. The ambiance of an interior is made up of more than just how it looks, it is also important to understand how a space makes people feel. That can be a reference both to emotion, and to tactile sensation.

If a space has soft fuzzy carpeting, and lots of pillows, it is going to feel comfortable and relaxed, however if it is all stark concrete, with granite countertops, and stainless steal accessories, you will feel colder, more remote, and more professional.

Style itself is a component of the decorative nature of a space. Many decorative items are created according to trends in design that have come and gone throughout human history. As time goes on people become bored with old styles, and so they invent new ones; thus the formal and intricately detailed chair from the Victorian Age is going to be different then the groovy been bag from the sixties.

By understanding and recognizing these basic elements of decorating, you can gain greater insight into how the feeling of a space is evoked. In this way, you can take command, using various techniques to control the ambiance and the psychology of your home.

Contemporary Kitchen Design

contemporary-design-of-kitchen

Kitchens are a focal point of any house. It’s where people congregate. As if they were drawn by a magnet, people always seem to end up in the cooking room. This is why contemporary kitchen design strives to make this room useful as well as beautiful. There are many ways to achieve this look with a new-built or if you are just renovating. Here are some key contemporary design ideas to help you optimize your area and make it look fashionably sleek as well:

* Open Space

This contemporary kitchen design concept is not new, but it is still the standard that architects and builders are using. The cooking area of the 50s and 60s was closed off. It was like a hidden away room that the mom would come in and out of through a swinging door with platters of food. Today, the area is more about creating a gathering space, a free flowing area that moves seamlessly from one room to the next.

* Storage

Contemporary kitchen design is raising everything-literally. Cabinets are getting taller to utilize that empty space between the cabinets and ceiling. This space usually becomes a catch-all for mix-matched decorative items.

Countertops are also getting higher for easier access. Actually, countertops are being designed at varying heights for optimal use. Deep pull out drawers, pull out shelves for cabinets and built-in wine racks and glass holders are also finding their way into the kitchnette. Efficiency is essential in a contemporary home so storage is an important aspect.

* Cabinets

Glass is being mixed in with solid cabinet doors to show off beautiful dishes and glasses. Or for just aesthetic purposes, the glass can be frosted or have patterns etched in them. Cabinet colors are still popular in lighter woods, but dark sophisticated cherry and walnut are also popular for more formal homes.

* Sleek Clean Lines

Contemporary kitchen design means that your cooking area is not full of ornate molding or intricate design. The lines of the cabinets are sleek and clean. Stainless steel appliances add to the clean look and definitely says contemporary.

* Contemporary Touches

Granite, marble and Corian countertops have been around a long time, but the latest in countertops is concrete. It gives a modern look to any counter and if it sounds odd to put concrete on the counter, don’t worry; it is polished to a beautiful finish. Track lighting also adds a contemporary touch to the kitchen and gives it some character and texture.

The point is, there are no real rules about contemporary designs. You can mix and match from all different styles depending on your personality and taste. This is, after all, your kitchen and you need to be happy and comfortable in it. As long as it makes sense and looks great, don’t be afraid to experiment with styles, materials and colors.

Show off your personality and make it a room that beckons people to it. When you look back through photos of parties and other gatherings, your beautiful kitchen will likely be the background for most of them!

Traditional Millennium Furniture by Ashley

Millennium by Ashley Furniture

Millennium Dining Table by Ashley Furniture
If you are a follower of traditional American furniture and want to get the most for your dollar, the Millennium collection from Ashley Furniture is a must see. Ashley is able to minimize their production and distribution costs resulting in a reasonably priced, high quality product. Shown here are the poster bed and dining room collections with very close attention to detail, solid woods, and burl veneers creating a most classical look. Ashley has a very extensive line including childrens furniture, sofa groups, occasional tables and wall units.

A great feature about the Millennium furniture line is its classic styling. These pieces will always be in style even twenty years from now in the future. The wood stain colors are very neutral which match well in almost in style home. The color stain is important when looking at traditional furniture. Generally, people opt to have most of their stains be a similar shade of darkness or lightness. Ashley has taken care of that challenge in their Millennium line. Another great feature is that this is a long standing line of furniture in their show rooms. We often receive inquiries where people are looking for specific pieces that are no longer manufactured. Let's face it. Not all of us can afford the dining table set, buffet, and hutch all at one time. It is nice to know that those pieces will still be available a few years from now.

I am a particularly big fan of their dining room line. A formal dining set up has always had a special place with me. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other meals are perfect for a bit more style as offered by Ashley Millennium. Entertaining guests is also much more fun when you have a dining room that you can be proud of. This furniture is not ideal for everyday eating for children. It is recommended that you have a more casual dining place for kids whether it be a small dinette set or a counter with bar stools.

To add texture Ashley includes chenille fabric accent pillows with elegant trim as a nice finishing touch. Combine Westchester with one of Ashley's many coffee tables for a well decorated living room.
